Gender stereotypes

Gender stereotypes are traditional (role) perceptions associated with the social norm of binary gender (male/female). They are often based on assumptions about typical behaviours, abilities and interests that are attributed to men or women. These stereotypes influence our behaviour and self-perception and can restrict individual development. Conversely, critical examination and changes in social practices can lead to the change and breaking down of stereotypes.
