Sexting is a neologism made up of the words ‘sex’ and ‘texting’. It refers to the exchange of sexually explicit messages or self-produced images and videos for mutual arousal via digital messaging services. This exchange is a criminal offence if it takes place between children (up to the age of 13) or without mutual consent. Like other sexual practices, sexting should take place in a context of mutual respect and consent.
