Sexually transmitted infections
Translation: Sexuell übertragbare Infektionen
Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are diseases that can be transmitted during sexual contact. For a long time, the rather imprecise term ‘sexually transmitted diseases’ was therefore used. Examples include syphilis, HIV, chlamydia and herpes. Most STIs are curable, others can be life-threatening. The risk of infection can be reduced through the use of condoms, lube, medication and vaccinations against individual pathogens.
