Trans is a self-designation used by people who do not or only partially identify with the gender they were assigned at birth. There are a wide variety of transgender identities. Some trans* people feel strange in their bodies, for example because they menstruate but identify as male. Others change their first name and pronouns. Some decide to undergo one or more gender reassignment.
