Genitals are organs that are primarily used for reproduction. The vulva, penis and scrotum are parts of the external genitals, while the vagina, uterus and prostate are part of the internal genitals. Genitals are diverse. If they cannot be clearly categorised as vulva or penis, they are referred to as intersex.
Doctors or midwives usually determine the gender assignment at birth. Our later gender identity may differ from this categorisation.
